I'm not overly familiar with any of the Bronte's work. I did start to read Charlotte's 'Villette' last year but got distracted and never finished it. (I will pick it up again one day.) I found that article interesting because of Elizabeth Gaskell - I had no idea she could be such a cow! hehe

That's the one. Kate Ceberano is an idiot. Also, I hate her.

Hmmm, I shall try harder to own my snobbery, then, and fight again this wishy-washy humanitarian trend =P

If you find a way of managing the relentless march of time, I'd appreciate it if you let me in on the secret. ;) Seriously, though, I don't think there's so much of a hurry to do more with your life... the less you've done already, the more you have to look forward to doing in the future. ;)

if i were you, and i was using those texts, i would probably argue that they are an example of how post-modern post-second wave (whatever) men are finding a new outlet to subjacate women that is more covert then past methods and past literature, partly because the rise of feminism has necessiated that it be more covert. but that might be too much of a feminist standpoint if you want to avoid a feminist argument. also, i would probably consider bringing in the fact that in 'fight club', men are beating men because feminism has made it more difficult to prey upon women, but i realise that might be construed as a 'feminazi' argument.

feminists would probably argue that such works are finding a public space and outlet to continue and normalise the subjacation of women, which has been discouraged by feminist waves. also, why is it so specific to the modern day and post second-wave feminism, haven't men been writing women into history in this way for a long time? how can you argue that it is purely post-modern (or post-second wave) anger?

My standards are probably too high as well, but why settle for less? You won't be happy.

There's nothing worse than a smug git telling you how you should go about getting a partner. I'm single because I want someone GOOD, not someone adequate. My lack of a male companion would suggest that the number of GOOD men out there is significantly low, if not altogether non-existant. And I hate people giving me pitiful looks when they find out I'm single. It's like I've just told them I have a terminal disease. I really hate people sometimes *sigh*
